MDE11687 - Rowbarrow Farm (Monument)

SS 73488 45825. On the 1840 Tithe Map [1] an unnamed building is shown on the north side of a short length of enclosed trackway leading up from Hoaroak Water. (The extension of this trackway 'Lyncombe Lane' was not in existance at that time.) This building is listed in the apportionment [2] under "Rowbarrow" as "house and offices" owned by John Heal. It is surrounded by a group of small enclosed gardens and fields. On the 1888 OS map the building, plus a smaller outbuilding on the south side of the trackway (which by then had become extended into Lyncombe Lane) is shown and annotated "Robarrow" but is unroofed [2]. This evidence suggests that the settlement, probably a small farmstead, was already out of use by 1888.
