Description

A statement of significance and heritage statement was prepared to accompany an application for listed building consent for alterations to The Lynch. It provide an assessment of the significance of the designated heritage assets, and assessed the impacts of the proposals upon the significance of the designated heritage assets and their settings. A comprehensive description of the house and its history, together with a section explaining the reasons for its designation was prepared as part of its recent Listing. The site lies within extensive gardens, and contains ancillary buildings; however, these are not referred to in the list description, and Historic England has advised they did not form part of their listing assessment. The report supplements this information only where it is necessary to inform the assessment of the significance of the elements of the building and its setting which are the subject of the proposed changes. The statement provides a proportionate assessment of significance for the purposes of understanding the significance of the designated heritage asset, its setting, and the impacts of the works in order to inform the current applications, based upon a visual assessment of the heritage asset supported by sufficient documentary research to elucidate the results of the visual assessment.
