LYNTON AND LYNMOUTH SS74NW A39, Barbrook 858-1/2/52 (South side) 03/09/73 Rose Cottage (Formerly Listed as: LYNTON BARBROOK Rose Cottage) - GV II House, one of a pair. C17. Rendered and painted rubble, slate roof, stone stacks. In 2 parts: the original 2-room central-entry plan building, which is built close to the rock face to the rear, is in 2 storeys with 3 windows, small 2 or 3-light casements with wood lintels, with stopped chamfer to the ground floor openings, and a central C19 door in C20 glazed gabled porch. The ground floor has remains of a rough stone drip course. The right gable, covered by the later adjoining building, has a large external stack. Set back, to the left, is a mid/late C20 lower 2-storey range. The return to the left has a central door, and a 2-light casement at each level. INTERIOR: the ground floor has a single room in the main range, with a rebuilt fireplace, retaining a cloam oven; there are some chamfered joists. The straight flight lateral stair has a thin C19 three-plank door. The roof structure, probably a late rebuilding, has paired principals. Listing NGR: SS7156447652
