MSO6916 - Post-medieval spoil heap at Picked Stones (Monument)

Summary

A post-medieval U-shaped mound, close to the west bank of White Water, has been interpreted as a spoil heap. This may be part of the Wheal Eliza Mine (MSO6802), or Picked Stones Mine (MSO6931).

Full Description

A U-shaped mound lies close to the west bank of White Water. It is visible as a flat-topped sub circular mound 10.5 metres in diameter and 2.8 metres high. It has been interpreted as a spoil heap associated with one of the nearby mines: Wheal Eliza Mine (MSO6802), or Picked Stones Mine (MSO6931). [1,2] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [3]
