Full Description

"Siderfin" printed on Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division 6 inch map and shown as a building and small enclosures. [1] Building remains, short bank and possibly a barn still in use. [2,3] Not mentioned in Aston's list of deserted settlements. [4] The site is not shown on the early 19th century large scale maps [5]. Two buildings, which appear to be a barn and a small outbuilding, are depicted on the Tithe map of 1839. They are named as "barn\court etc." and occupied by Sarah Edbrooke, who also held the farm of East Mousehanger, a mile to the east [6]. This suggests that Siderfins operated as an outfarm rather than as a farm in its own right. The barns were still in use in the late 19th century [7], and were in use by Leigh Farm in 1998 [8].
