MMO2238 - Prehistoric burial cairn on Furzehill Common (Monument)

Summary

A small flat-topped mound, thought to be a prehistoric burial cairn, is visible on aerial photographs. It is similar in size and form to other prehistoric cairns in the area and appears to have been spread by ploughing.

Full Description

A small flat-topped mound is visible on aerial photographs on the west slopes of Fuzehill Common, Lynton and Lynmouth.Centred at approximately SS 7321 4446, the mound measures approximately 12 metres across. It is similar in size and form to other prehistoric cairns in the area, particularly those to the north (see MDE20332) and appears to have been spread by ploughing but otherwise shows very few signs of damage or robbing. [1,2] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [3]
