Full Description

Field boundary banks of medieval or post-medieval date are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs, to the south of Higher East Lyn at circa SS 7367 4820. The banks are aligned upon with the surviving field boundaries and are clearly part of the same field system. They divide a large field into three irregularly sized enclosures, the function of which is unclear. It is possible they may be evidence of abandoned settlement at East Lyn. The fields or enclosures are not marked on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map and therefore must there predate its publication in 1889. [1-5] The northern and western arms of this remnant system are shown on Lynton Tithe Map.
