Full Description

A courtyard of building is shown on the Tithe Map for Upton to the northeast of Venne House, centred at SS 9903 3084. It is listed as part of the barton of Venne in the accompanying Apportionment. [1] The western part of the range is shown on the 25 inch 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map. Further outbuildings have been added to the site in this area and to the north. A large building at SS 9902 3088 is labelled "Venne Cottage", and is served by a pump. [2] Nearly all of the buildings shown on the 1st Edition map appear to be extant on the 2021 MasterMap data. One of the buildings within the area of the original courtyard is labelled "The Coach House", but it is not clear if this relates to an original or more recently constructed structure. [3] Venne House was presumably built in the 19th Century and appears on the Ordnance Survey 1 inch mapping of 1802-3 [4]. To the north of the former house is a cottage and stable block. [5] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [6] Several outbuildings are also shown on the 1802 Ordnance Survey map. [4]
