Full Description

The signpost was surveyed as part of the 2017-8 Exmoor Signpost project. It had a pyramidal finial inscribed with S C C. The inscriptions on the fingers below are described below: [FELONS OAK 1/2 - finger missing] ROADWATER 1 1/2 / WASHFORD 3 WITHYCOMBE 1 1/2 The post is inscribed with SOMERSET but with no maker's details. [1] The post was mapped using 2018 Ordnance Survey MasterMap data and Google Streetview. The missing finger is visible on this latter resource. [2,3] The heritage asset was assessed for inclusion on the Exmoor Local Heritage List in February 2024. It was decided to add the asset to the Local Heritage List. [4]
