Summary

The cottages are first depicted on the early 20th Century 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey map. A Wellington Bomber crashed into one of the cottages in 1940 and badly damaged it.

Full Description

Westgate Cottages are first depicted on the 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey map. [1,2] A Wellington Bomber crashed into one of the cottages in 1940 and seriously damaged it. One man was killed but the other members of the crew had managed to bail out and were unhurt. One of the survivors turned up at Aclands Farm (MEM23145) with no idea of where he was and was very relieved to find the occupants spoke English. [3]
