Full Description

An irregular ovoid enclosure was noted during a non-intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on Deer Park, undertaken by South West Archaeology as part of the Exmoor Mires Project. The feature is defined by slight curving bank on its east and north sides, these banks measure up to c. 4 metres in width and are up to 0.2 metres high; there is the hint of a ditch on north side of the bank. This was seen to be truncated by a drainage ditch located to the south side of the feature. This enclosure appears similar to the nearby feature MEM22530. The stones MEM22558 partly overlie the bank, some other small stones are visible beneath the turf within the enclosure. [1] The Historic Environment Officer for the Exmoor Mires Project undertook a non-intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on Deer Park, which included this site. The surveyor was unable to locate in field though the indicated area of feature is defined by a distinct vegetation change. [2]
