MDE8996 - Natural outcrops on Trentishoe Down (Non-antiquity)

An irregular shaped cairn, measuring 7.0 metres by 5.0 metres and 0.4 metres high was noted on a site visit approximately 670 metres southeast of the summit of Trentishoe Down. [1] In the vicinity of the National Grid Reference cited (SS 6345 4729) are several heather and turf covered outcrops; they appear to be natural. No evidence for field clearance could be noted. [2] Monument MMO1781 records a prehistoric enclosure in this location. It is not clear whether this is a misidentification of the above-mentioned outcrops. [3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
