MDE21311 - Post-medieval boundary stone on northwest side of Trentishoe Down (Monument)

Summary

A post-medieval boundary stone, made of slate and measuring 0.78 metres long and 0.5 metres wide. It has no inscription. It marks the boundary between the parishes and manors of Combe Martin and Trentishoe.

Full Description

A boundary stone, post-medieval in date, on northwest side of trentishoe down. The stone is slate and 0.78 metres long by 0.5 metres wide. There is no inscription. The stone lies in the ditch on the east side of the boundary wall between the parishes and manors of Combe Martin and Trentishoe. [1] This is one of a group of similar boundary stones on the parish boundary between Combe Martin and Trentishoe. [2-4] The stone was visited in September 2012 as part of the rapid condition survey of Exmoor's Listed Buildings 2012-13. It received a BAR score of 3A. [5] This stone was visible on the 1843 Combe Martin Tithe map. [6] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [7]
