COUNTISBURY SS 74 NW 3/32 Nos. 1 & 2 Town Farm Cottages and - The Annexe - GV II Farmhouse, now divided. Early to mid-C17, possibly incorporating an earlier core, with C18 addition and probably mid-C19 remodelling and addition. Rendered coursed stone rubble, painted rubble where render has been removed. Gable-ended Welsh slate roof. Plan and development: probably 3-room and cross passage plan, consisting of hall with large external lateral stack to front, inner room to right with former end stack (now ridge) and probably C18 addition (see break forward) beyond to right, and lower room to left with former end stack and projecting gabled C19 cross wing beyond. Possibly a remodelling of a medieval open hall but no evidence was noted at time of survey (July 1987). 2 storeys. Exterior: asymmetrical front with 6 windows to first floor and 5 to ground floor; C19 2- and 3-light wooden casements, second ground-floor window from right with painted segmental brick head. Central rendered large external stack with offsets to tall circular shaft and pitched-roofed link to attic. Ground-floor lean-to square bay to right (possibly C17) with 3-light wooden casement. C19 Tudor-arched doorway to left of stack with 2-leaf boarded door, beaded frame, and C19 lean-to porch with Tudor-arched opening. C20 half-glazed door to right of bay. C18 addition to right built into hillside, with boarded loft door. C19 1-light wooden casement in right- hand gable end. 2-storey C19 wing to left with 2-light segmental headed wooden casement to each floor. Rear: almost continuous outshut with rendered external lateral stack; pair of eaves dormers. Interior: central former hall has open stone fireplace with bread oven and deep- chamfered wooden lintel with run-out stops. Mainly cased beams. Left-hand cottage and roof space not inspected (July 1987). Some old purlins are visible. Listing NGR: SS7461349613
