Full Description

An urn containing portions of bones found before 1830 in a barrow on the Luxborough part of Brendon Hill when the barrow was being demolished for road material. The urn, which fell apart on removal, was contained in a hole in the native slate, next to another hole in which there was a quantity of ashes. Both were covered with a large white slate and a sandstone slab 5 feet by 3 feet (Luxborough 6). Another similar barrow is adjacent. [1-4] National Grid Reference is Ordnance Survey's and likely to be wrong as it is not in Luxborough Parish. A location to the west along the ridge road is more likely. Marginal site. [5] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [6]
