The forest wall was built by John Knight to enclosure his property and stretched for nearly 30 miles. [1]

When John Knight purchased the former Royal Forest (MEM22088) only a few mounds stones and streams seperated it from the commons of the surrounding parishes. As a result he undertook to build a 29 mile wall around his estate that was completed in 1824, three years after he took possession. [2]
